Sturgis day 4-5 - River Rafting in CO | Moab, UT to Lusk, WY

03 Sep 2025

White water rafting and moto camping!

With some incredible experiences in the books already in the first 3 days of riding to the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, we were covering some distance and there were plenty of good times ahead. Day 4 and 5 were full of adventures, speed bumps, and problems to solve, and we'd have it no other way!

On night 3 we spent our first night in a hotel after 2 days of back to back camping and it was much needed. The group was refreshed, well rested, and ready to cover some miles! After our first stretch out of Moab, we made some roadside fixes, then rode out to Fruita, CO to grab some lunch Rides Bar & Grill in Fruita, CO which is owned by a friend of Dom's cousin! It was cool seeing them connect after a few years and the food was great!

Pulling into Glenwood Springs, CO we rode straight into Whitewater Rafting LLC with minutes to spare, threw some board shorts on, then hopped on the bus to rip down the river! Lance was reminiscing back to the good 'ol days rafting the Kern River and our guide even let him steer the raft after the first run! For us, this was such a rad experience because we've rarely taken the time to do activities like this on road trips. The whole group had a great time and it was a refreshing cool-down from all of the time in the sun the past few days.

Afterwards, we made our way down the road to Ami's Acres Campground where we set up the tents, cleaned up, and cooked some steaks for a relaxing night under the stars. The camping experience was another aspect that made this trip special and it's something we'll be throwing into the mix on future trips. Something about hangin' with the group in front of the fire sharing experiences from the day...that's what it's all about!

The following day started with a 2 hour gas station bike fix after making it a good 500 yards, but we eventually made it through some of the most scenic riding of the trip in Colorado, with a 30+ mile stretch of dirt road along the way. Dom's kidneys eventually recovered after the bumpy ride on his hard tail.

We went into Colorado for lunch to meet one of Luke's buddies for lunch and he brought us to The Dean West Restaurant in the small town of Kremmling. It was a bit of  wait as it must have been the local watering hole, but the food was good and everyone got fueled up for the final (not so short) stretch of road.

From Kremmling to Lusk was about 300 miles, but it felt a ways longer with some stops, light rain, and a minor fix or two. By the time we made it to Lusk, it was just after 9pm and luckily the kind folks over at the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill (our regular dinner spot in town) agreed to keep the kitchen open late for this group of 15 to order some ribeyes after hours!

It was the perfect way to end the day and after some drinks and good eats in cattle country, we cruised down the road to the Best Western Pioneer to catch some rest and get ready to ride into Sturgis the next day!
