Prop 65 Warning – California Residents

What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law that requires businesses to provide warnings if their products contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. These warnings help California consumers make informed purchasing decisions.

Why Do Some Helmets Have a Prop 65 Warning?

Some helmets may contain chemicals found in materials such as:

  • Polycarbonate shells and plastic components – May contain Bisphenol A (BPA).
  • Adhesives and glues – May include toluene or other regulated substances.
  • Foam padding and liners – Could contain formaldehyde or flame retardants.
  • Paints and coatings – May have lead or heavy metals.

These substances are commonly used in the manufacturing process and do not make the product unsafe when used as intended.

Is This Helmet Safe to Use?

Yes. A Prop 65 warning does not mean that the product is dangerous. All our helmets meet or exceed safety standards set by organizations such as:

  • DOT (Department of Transportation)
  • ECE (Economic Commission for Europe)
  • Snell Memorial Foundation

The warning is provided to comply with California law, even if the actual exposure risk is minimal.
