2023 Sturgis Run | Day 2 | Williams, AZ to Durango, CO
The Journey Continues
Eastbound and...up
After a great day 1 riding from Los Angeles to Williams, Arizona it was time to continue on to destinations unknown. Without any solidified plans, we figured we'd just hit the road, follow the good weather, and see where the day would take us. We missed the Moki Dugway on last year's Sturgis run, so it was in our sights this time around, but you'll have to stick around to see if we made it. After a great breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants in town Anna's Canyon Cafe we packed up the bikes and got things moving.
Places to go, people to see!
So far, the weather was perfect aside from some rain and the same pattern would continue for day 2. Usually it is in the triple digits through Kayenta and Monument Valley in August, but this time around, low 90s felt pretty dang good! After stopping at the famous "Forest Gump Point" we made our way to the San Juan Inn & Trading Post in Mexican Hat, UT for some lunch and a break from the rain. We've spent the night there in the past, but we had our sights on a further destination for the night.
The final stretch
We considered a few places along the way, but being that Durango is home to the Historic Strater Hotel as well as some good eats, and a perfectly timed ride in during golden hour, the group decided that was our best bet, officially making it to the halfway point of our ride to the Black Hills of South Dakota. By the time we were all unpacked it was getting late, so we walked over to Steamworks Brewing for some late night eats and a few libations and reflected on another epic day on the road.
The Journey Continues..
With another unplanned day ahead, we only had one goal...to get closer to South Dakota!
