Riding along the Kern | Kern Loop Ride | Day 2
Riding Along the Kern!
2LaneLife
Two moto-vloggers passionate about traveling and the open road.
Ahh..the Kern River, an area with lots of memories for the whole group. We've all had some good times in Kernville even before the days of 2Lane and it's always a great place to visit!
We woke up to some perfect weather and walked down to our favorite breakfast spot in town, Cheryl's Diner for some good eats to get the day started. Before getting out for some riding, we met up with Gary Ananian, founder of the Kern River Conservancy to talk about recent events contributing to flooding and how we can keep the area clean.
Mountain Highway 99 a.k.a. Sierra Way runs along the Upper Kern and all of the way up into Johnsondale, California. A road we're very familiar with, we've seen the water levels raise and ween over the years and it's always a blast to ride through the canyon with some great views along the way, especially when the water level is as high as is was! Unfortunately, due to some recent downpours and flooding, the road was closed at McNally's by the Fairview Campground, but we still got to enjoy a great morning ride before making our way out of town on highway 178.
After some great miles on winding valley roads, we pulled into Bakersfield to grab some lunch at Ethel's Old Corral before the final stretch home. A well-known spot in the area, they're known for their live music, dancing, and a great place to eat when passing through!
This weekend trip was more of a relaxing pace compared to our long-haul trips so it was cool to get out and switch things up!
See you all on the next adventure!
