Riding from Wichita, Kansas to Moline, Illinois
We almost made it to Milwaukee
We pulled off to get some lunch somewhere in Nebraska where we ended up having first Runza experience. The lady behind the counter seemed confused that we had never heard of a Runza, but she was excited to hear about our journey and talk about the restaurant chain's history when she found out we weren't from the area. We enjoyed a great lunch, then got back on the road, eventually rolling into Dillon Brothers Harley-Davidson for our final meet & greet, where we got to shake hands and hear stories from folks who rode out from all over, some from over 300 miles away! It's always so awesome to meet people in person, hear their stories, and get to know the folks that have supported us from the beginning of this journey! Afterwards, the boys from the dealership took us down the road to the local watering hole, the Ponderosa Bar & Grill where we got some enchiladas and cold beverages before riding a couple of miles to our AirBnB for the night.
Although the following day was full of highway miles, the scenery continued to get better and we rolled into Des Moines around lunch time, hungry and ready for a good meal! We asked a local at the gas station where to eat and he pointed us in the direction of the Big Grove Brewery, which did not disappoint! We got off the bikes in humid heat and walked in to some cold AC and a great ambiance with some friendly hometown feeling service to match. We got a mix of poke bowls, beet salads, burger patties, and cuban sandwiches and they seriously hit it out of the park. It was easily our favorite meal from the past few days and our server Coral was the cherry on top...and not just because she gave us some 6 packs of beer for our journey. There's something about that mid-west hospitality!
A few hours later, we rolled into Moline, Illinois which would be our stay for the night before riding into Milwaukee the following day. We got some rooms at the Stoney Creek Hotel and met up with our friends Matt and Randy and walking down the road to grab some steaks at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. Aside from Randy's overcooked ribeye, the rest of our meals were great and although we dealt with quite the wait, it was the perfect way to end a long day on the road in good company.
We know this series was dropped a little out of order, but we enjoyed the journey either way and wanted to share it with y'all! Stay tuned for some awesome adventures this coming year!!!
See you down the road...
